2009 Chauncey B. Smythe Award Recipient Announced

ELYRIA, OH - EMH Regional Healthcare System presented Lois Koehler, director of volunteer services, with the 2009 Chauncey B. Smythe award at a gathering of hospital leaders on October 22nd. In receiving the award, Ms. Koehler was honored for her work with Easter Seals Northern Ohio.
The Chauncey B. Smythe award is given each year to an EMH employee who has made a significant positive impact upon our community. The award is named for the late Chauncey B. Smythe, who served as president of the board for Elyria Memorial Hospital from 1952 until 1979, and was known for his generosity of spirit and constant desire to make EMH the best hospital it could be.
Ms. Koehler has been involved with Easter Seals for nearly a decade, currently serving on the organization's board of directors. She has also held the positions of both president and vice president. During her tenure, Ms. Koehler has participated in key fundraising events such as "Walk with Me," held each summer; the annual golf outing sponsored by Invacare; and the Easter Seals Auction - of which all proceeds benefit members of our local communities. "I'm very privileged to be serving with many individuals who are truly focused on the mission of the organization and the service it provides," said Koehler. "The employees of Easter Seals Northern Ohio are the ones day-in and day-out who are truly making a difference - they deserve this honor."
A check for $1,000 was presented to Ms. Koehler during the award ceremony, which will be added to the funds used by Easter Seals Northern Ohio to provide local services to both children and adults in our area.
